One of the most celebrated art forms in Costa Rica is Carretas,  or brightly painted oxcarts.  This tradtional art form has been around in Costa Rica for many decades.
Pottery is also another native form of art that has been a customs for Costa Ricans for many years.

Carved wooden masks is a very unique art form and can be found in many museums in Costa Rica.
Molas are brightly colored panels made of intricately designed fabric and very popular purchases for tourists of Costa Rica.

Latin dances like the salsa, the merengue, the cumbia, and the Costa Rican swing.  Maypole dances are also very popular.  The music and dance in Costa Rica shows the influence of all the different cultures that make up the country.

People in Costa Rica enjoy our pop culture, and also their own traditional folk music.  Soca is also very popular, it is a mixture soul music for the United States and calypso music, which is also very popular, along with reggae.

    • Born on April 5, 1950 Franklin Chang-Diaz was the first Costa Rican to go up into space.
    • He was born in San Jose, Costa Rica, the capital.
    • When he arrived in the United States in 1968, he could not speak any English, but by 1977 he had earned a Ph.D in plasma physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
    • He went into space for the first time in January of 1986.
    • Francisco Amighetti was born on June 1, 1907, in San Jose, Costa Rica.
    • He is very good at all types of art and went to la Academia de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Spain and was taught by the famous Spanish artist, Tomas Povedano.
    • He has made over 500 masterpieces that include paintings and sculptures.
